For children who just miss the Kindergarten cut-off date or who would benefit from the gift of another year before starting Kindergarten, Children's Corner offers a Young Fives Class.  With a group size of 12 children and 2 teachers, our Young Fives teachers are able to provide individualized attention to each child.  Our Lead Teacher is a former kindergarten teacher with a California Teaching Credential.  The class meets Monday through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from late August through June.  In July in August, these children may attend all or any of the Summer Camp programs if summer programming is desired.

The program's curriculum includes Zoo-phonics, an animal based phonics program, and a Master Art Program where children explore concepts through the work of great artists such as Georgia O'Keefe, Claude Monet and Frank Lloyd Wright among others.  The children also receive daily introduction to Spanish with a native speaking Spanish teacher, and monthly field trips which include among others, trips to the Hiller Aviation Museum, Hidden Villa, Shoup Park, the Rodin Sculpture Gardens at Stanford University, the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo, the Palo Alto Baylands and a variety of children's plays at the Sunnyvale Children's Theatre.  Children also enjoy weekly park trips, plant and care for a garden, and have weekly cooking projects in addition to our developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten program.
